The aim of this study is to determine the mood changes with Beck Depression Scale in people to whom surgical extraction of mandibular third molar teeth.
The study consisted of patients with mandibular third molar tooth who were admitted to our clinic between March 2018 and December 2018 with indication of surgical extraction.
A total of 60 volunteer patients (30 female, 30 male) with impected mandibular 3rd molar teeth were included in this study. The surgical attraction difficulty classification was made according to the Pederson difficulty index, which was created by combining Pell-Gregory and Winter classifications. In determining the degree of surgical attraction difficulty of the lower third molar teeth; based on physical examination and radiographic diagnosis.
The patients included in the study were between 18 and 47 years of age, and the average age was 25,60 years. Before and after the operation, the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) was applied to the patients who would be operated for the impected lower third molar tooth.
According to the statistical analysis of the data obtained from the patients before and after the operation; postoperative pain and trismus caused changes in the patient’s mood but did not directly affect edema.
